RULES
Like any good RPG group, Hogwarts: The Next Generation has our very own set of rules. While they may appear extensive, they are very basic and should be familiar if you've been in an RP group before. Please make sure to read the rules in their entirety before asking to join our group!
GROUP RULES
- FOLLOW THE RULES. Pretty self-explanitory, huh? The first time you break a rule, you will receive a warning. Second is probation. Third you will be removed from the group.
- MIND THE ADMINS. We've worked hard to create and maintain this group, and we take it's well being to heart. Our main goal is to create a happy and safe space for our members to express both their creativity and love for Harry Potter.
- BE 18+. This is an RP group for adults. There will be cursing, there will be smut, there will be mature content. If this doesn't sit well with you, then you need not apply.
- BE LITERATE. We pride ourselves in being experienced writers. We expect our members to RP in a detailed and thoughtful manner. Engage your creativity, develop your plots, and put time into your replies- it makes for a more interesting environment!
- BE ACTIVE. We expect our members to RP at least 2x / week for each of their characters. Characters lacking activity for over 3 weeks will be reopened. If you neglect your current characters, you will not be allowed to create new characters. If there is any reason why you cannot be online, please tell the admins ahead of time so we can hold your character for you!
- NO BULLYING. If you are found bullying another member out-of-character (OOC), you will be removed from the group. If you are being bullied by another member, please contact the admin account immediately!
- UTILIZE THE ADMIN ACCOUNT. Please send any questions, requests, complaints, etc to the Next Generation admin account. The admins make almost ALL decisions together, so it is very helpful for us to see your feedback in one centralized location.
- KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY. We are a closed RP group. This means we only allow RPing with other Next Generation members. Engaging in RPs with AUs, Open-verse, or other RP group accounts is not allowed.
ROLE PLAYING RULES
- NO GODMODDING. This includes making up story lines for a character without the owner's permission. Remember- just because you as a member can read a plot on the timeline, doesn't necessarily mean that your character is privy to the same information. If you have any questions about godmodding, please give THIS SITE a read, or ask the admins!
- ASK PERMISSION. Do not carry out any major and/or questionable plots without consulting the admins first. Examples include rape, pregnancy, death, self harm, eating disorders, or anything that could be triggering to another member. If you have received approval from the admins, you must include a trigger warning before posting the plot/thread to the timeline.
- NO OUT-OF-CHARACTER (OOC). Please keep OOC conent off the timeline. OOC is only allowed if it is related to the group or to Harry Potter. Anything else should be handled via direct messages (DMs).
- ABIDE BY CANON. We pride ourselves in sticking closely to canon here at Next Generation, and we require our members to abide by both the genius of JK Rowling AND the rules of Hogwarts. This includes a LOT of things, namely: students cannot use technology within Hogwarts, students can only use magic that they have learned according to their age and course curriculum, and characters cannot bypass the magical boundaries established at Hogwarts. Please see the full list of Hogwarts rules HERE.
- DON'T TAKE IT PERSONALLY. It's important to remember that the members are not their characters, and vice versa. This is RP! Some characters are mean, but it has zero reflection on you or the member behind the character. If things start getting heated, we will ask you to leave and take a moment to cool down before returning to the timeline.
FACE CLAIM RULES
- ASK FIRST. If you are interested in changing your face claim (FC), please contact the admins first.
- AGE APPROPRIATE. FCs must be realistic and age appropriate to the character they will be representing. This includes limiting a student FC's number of tattoos and/or piercings.
- ONE TIME CHANGE. You can only change your character's FC once after your initial designation. This is mostly because it makes updating the site a pain in the butt. Choose wisely.
- HIGH PROFILE. Your selected FC must have exposure to the public and a variety of photos to choose from. We don't accept FCs of people who only have selfies or Instagram pictures.
- CANONS STAY CANON. Please don't ask if you can change the FC of a canon character. The answer is no.
